Bullpen woes continue as Mariners lose to Angels

For the second night in a row, the Los Angeles Angels dealt Seattle a very tough loss with a ninth-inning rally.

Los Angeles scored four times in the seventh inning, most of the damage coming with two outs. Jean Segura went 3 for 5 while Yonder Alonso and Jarrod Dyson each put up a pair of base hits in the losing effort.

The Mariners led 5-1 Friday.

JC Ramirez lost his last outing as Baltimore reached him for six runs and eight hits in seven innings.

The Mariners did just drop the first two games of a crucial four game weekend series against the division rival Anaheim Angels, but they remain just a half game out of the wild card race. Mariners relievers are 0-3 and have allowed 13 runs (12 earned) in 10 2/3 innings.

After Blake Parker pitched a scoreless eighth, Cam Bedrosian did the same in the ninth for his fifth save of the season. The Seattle Mariners teams of the past, held back by their seeming inability to find any good hitting talent, were forced to rely on defense and pitching to win games, something that proved increasingly challenging.

Chris Hadfield weighs in on the Perseid meteor shower
With only a few clouds in the forecast tonight, some of us could see a few meteors streaking across the Valley. The greatest numbers of meteors will be between midnight and just before dawn on the mornings of August 11-13.

"We've got to continue to play good baseball regardless of who we're playing against really", Simmons said.

Nolasco threw a complete-game shutout against the Mariners earlier this year but fell victim to the long ball on Friday.

Tony Zych (5-3) ran into even more trouble in the eighth.

North Battleford's Andrew Albers is going to be in a pennant chase. The Mets received minor league pitcher Ryder Ryan in return, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Mariners: Paxton was placed on the 10-day DL with a left pectoral strain, a major blow to Seattle's already thin starting rotation. But Paxton becomes the third starter from Seattle's projected rotation at the beginning of the season to be on the disabled list late in the year, joining Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma.

That spoiled an outstanding start by the Mariners' Erasmo Ramirez, who allowed an unearned run and three hits in six innings. It will be his second appearance and first start against Seattle this year.
