Iranian Parliament Increases Funding For Missiles, IRGC In Reaction To US Sanctions

The measure comes in retaliation to new US sanctions on Iran over its ballistic-missile program and missile tests.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said the parliament's vote to approve the motion was just the first step, adding that if Washington proceeds with its anti-Tehran policies, the law will take effect. A total of 240 parliamentarians out of 244 present voted for the bill.

The measure would also allocate over $260 million each to Iran's ballistic missile program and the Quds Force - the external arm of the IRGC, which has sent military advisers to Iraq and Syria to fight terrorists.

After the result was announced, lawmakers shouted: "Death to America".

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said the government fully supports the new law passed by the parliament against the U.S. terrorist and adventurous measures in the region, describing it as a "wise" and "appropriate" move against Washington's enmities towards Iran.

The bill tasks Foreign, Intelligence, and Defense Ministries, Iran's Army, and its Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and its Quds Force to produce a comprehensive strategy aimed at countering United States threats.

What we had was midfielders, wingers, scoring, central defenders scoring goals at set pieces. He added: "I think we played everything so we don't lose this game".

Tehran says its missile program does not breach a United Nations resolution which endorsed the nuclear deal.

But last month he backed away from his pledge to withdraw from the agreement.

Abbas Araghchi, a deputy foreign minister and senior nuclear negotiator on hand for the vote, said a moderate President Hassan Rouhani's government would support the bill.

Araghchi, also in defense, said the countermeasure bill is "much stronger" than US Congress bill against Iran, since it also extends support to the Islamic Republic's armed forces and all related ministries.

A number of recent close encounters between USA ships and Iranian vessels in the Gulf have added to the tensions between the two countries.
