Militants Fire At Army Camp In J&K, Jawan Injured

Two soldiers were killed and three others injured during an encounter with militants in the village of Avneera in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday, PTI reported.

An encounter has broken out between terrorists and security forces in Shopian town of south Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, a joint cordon and search operation were conducted by the security forces, which were well planned as we trapped three terrorist in that area. Militants fired at the approaching security personnel, wounding five Army personnel, two of whom later died.

Two soldiers and three rebels were killed in an overnight gunbattle in Kashmir, officials said August 13, in the latest bloodshed in the disputed Himalayan territory.

A fierce firefight broke out in which three militants and two soldiers were killed, army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia told AFP.

Police official confirmed the killing and said he was critically injured. Almost 150 militants were killed previous year.

Separately, in north Kashmir's Bandipora, two policemen were wounded when they were shot by suspected militants, and a civilian succumbed to his injuries from a petrol bomb attack in Srinagar. However, many were injured during the protests which turned in to clashes as government forces resorted to tear gas shelling and pellet firing.

Internet services have been blocked in Badgam district following the identification of Itoo among the slain militants.
