Nationals Bryce Harper carried off field with apparent knee injury

Outfielder Bryce Harper exited the Washington Nationals' series opener against the San Francisco Giants at Nationals Park late Saturday night with an apparent left knee injury during the first inning.

Harper clutched at his left knee after going down and was attended to by trainers.

The game was called at 9:48 p.m. ET by a Nationals spokesman in the press box for a game that was slated to start at 7:05 p.m. It was still raining when Harper's injury happened. Major League Baseball, not the Nationals, decided if and when the game would be played because the Giants don't return to Washington this season.

Harper slipped on the bag, had to be helped off field.

Wozniacki Reaches 6th Final of 2017 with Win over Stephens in Toronto
Wozniacki will play defending champion Simona Halep or Elina Svitolina for the championship on Sunday at Toronto's Aviva Centre. It's just tough to play her in these conditions.

After a down year by his standards in 2016, he is once again among the league's top hitters in 2017, batting.326 with 29 home runs and 87 RBI.

The Nationals are 14 games up on the Marlins in the NL East, and a long-term injury for Harper would obviously be a huge blow to the team's playoff chances.

Harper is under contract through next season and can be a free agent in the winter of 2018.
