The traders under the banner of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) staged a protest a city centre, here to protest against any attempt to abrogate Article 35-A.

He said 35A is state subject law and they (NGO and others) are out to declare it as invalid. "If the central government is serious, they should file a counter", he said. "We stand by the words of CM Mehbooba Mufti".

Meanwhile, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh said J&K Government was running smoothly.

He said the debate over Article 35A was neither Hindu versus Muslims nor Jammu versus Kashmir.

He said the matter was sub-judice as some people have approached the Supreme Court on Article 35-A.

Officials in the home ministry had said yesterday that its law officers would be presenting legal aspects related to Article 35A only and would refrain from joining the case.

He said both opposition parties are over reacting on Article 35-A. Most importantly, Article 14 refers to "persons" and not "citizens".

"Since past year more than 160 civilians have been killed with impunity by the Indian forces while thousands became victim to pellet guns and lost their eyes and limbs. Those in power especially the PDP should realize that their weaknesses for power is making people of Kashmir pay dearly and history will never forgive them if they continue in this manner".

"Let us wait for the verdict", Singh said.

"People think that our identity can be in danger".
