Suspect due in court in Hempstead slayings of 3 women

Police on Long Island are searching or a "person of interest" in the deaths of three women found inside a Hempstead, New York, home.

Police say the suspect, 24-year-old Bobby Vanderhall, returned early Saturday morning to his family's home in Hempstead, where he had previously been kicked out.

'He went to the garage, he obtained a large hammer.With this hammer, he broke through the basement door'.

He's also accused of bludgeoning another one of his sister's friends, 29-year-old Candace Murray, but she managed to fight back and leave the home.

The survivor, who wasn't identified, was hospitalized in stable condition.

The 34-year-old Vanderhall was arrested Saturday on murder charges in the deaths of his mother, Lynn Reichenbach-Vanderhall; his sister, Melissa Vanderhall; and visitor Janel Simpson. His mother had recently filed for an order of protection against him. Bobby Vanderhall stayed in the house for a short time before fleeing, and was apprehended within a two-mile radius of the scene sleeping in a vehicle, said Nassau County Det.

Bobby Vanderhall, the son and sister of two of the victims, is charged with the murders.
