Brighton boss Hughton positive despite Manchester City defeat

Before the game Guardiola spoke cryptically about not always playing Aguero and Jesus up front but on Saturday he gave Brighton the full double blast, which paid off - eventually.

Man City became the latest team to go with the three-man defence trend, with John Stones protected in the middle by the pacier Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi.

"We did it earlier, so we were lucky because now it would be so much more expensive with what has happened in the last weeks".

With the victory, City are now provisionally in second place in the EPL standings with three points, while Brighton are in the 19th spot with none. Being at one club for eight, nine years it's a big change for me but I'm enjoying my football. I assure you that because last season we finished contract of five, six players, and for six years Manchester City hadn't bought full-backs.

"But the season is going to be long and today was an improvement on a lot of things we did last season".

"I want to continue with what we did in the last three games of pre-season", said Guardiola.

"We're here to win games and we won the first one - but it's just the first one", he said.

Giroud rescues Arsenal to seal 4-3 opening win vs Leicester
Just a few minutes later, he would net the goal that would secure the win for Arsenal to start the season. To think, we have an entire opening weekend to go yet, as well as an entire season.

Afterwards the manager was predictably delighted with all the riches at his disposal and promised that City will "improve the way we attack" this season.

"Like every club that's promoted to the Premier League, it's to finish 17th or higher".

"We have to learn to attack better if teams play in that way, the big teams have to handle those situations". We were not able with those players to find a solution. It was always going to be hard for us to score. Jenas believes that City are favourites but that they must win something with the quality that they have got.

But the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss expects even better from City once his new players get used to the tempo of the Premier League.

"It is all I demand of my players and when you see Sergio and Gabriel run backwards and Kevin and David, that is the first step to creating something".
