Sigurdsson undergoes Everton medical, Koeman lavishes praise

Koeman has spent £88.4m on Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane and Sandro Ramirez - meaning the club are now up to £133.4m with their summer spending.

Koeman said about his side's need for a striker, "We still need to sign a striker".

"I know the market has changed, it's become very hectic, but we won't take that as an excuse".

Tonight's Europa League play-off qualifier against Hajduk Split at Goodison Park will come too soon for the former Tottenham star but Toffees boss Ronald Koeman suggested he could make his debut in next Monday's Premier League match at Manchester City.

"My message to the fans would be that the club wants to move forward, we want to improve our squad and our style", he said.

One player who certainly brought Koeman's specified productivity to the Everton team in the 1-0 win over Stoke City in their domestic season opener was Wayne Rooney.

The Red Devils are said to be one of the clubs who will not be fond of the idea of an early close, with Watford also said to be among them. I know there's talks about that changing in future.

As the biggest news in Australian politics this week, naturally, Australia's newspapers found it impossible to resist. The Coalition under Malcolm Turnbull now holds 76 seats in the lower house, which amounts to a one-seat majority.

The manager also confirmed he is still waiting to find out the extent of a hamstring injury midfielder Ross Barkley suffered in training last week.

Midfielder Barkley, who is entering the past year of his contract, appears destined to leave the club having turned down the offer of a new deal.

The blueprint for change will be discussed at the next meeting of Premier League chairmen on 7 September, with the hope of ending chaotic transfer sagas with players agitating for moves weeks into the season.

Koeman, who has let midfielder Gareth Barry join West Brom, indicated he would still like to strengthen in the current transfer window beyond the capture of Sigurdsson.

It would mean that, if Liverpool were faced with a similar situation to the one they now have with Philippe Coutinho after the domestic window had closed, they would not be able to reinvest the transfer funds and bring in reinforcements.

Chadli is a player that is highly inconsistent, which has hampered his Premier League career with both Spurs and the Baggies. Players like this should only be signed if a team has reason to believe that they are one player away from a Champions League place/league title, or if their revenue is so high that the loss they take on the player will be irrelevant.
