Kidambi Srikanth crashes out, loses to world No. 1 Son Wan Ho

She won bronze medals at the 2013 (Guangzhou) and 2014 (Copenhagen) editions.

Stuffing his racket into his bag, Srikanth stayed back at the venue to watch PV Sindhu assure herself a third World championship medal.

Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the Badminton World Championships in the quarter-finals as he was completely outplayed by the world No. 1 Son Wan Ho of South Korea in Glasgow on Friday.

How to watch the live streaming of Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu's respective semi-final matches? She will play either Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour or China's He Bingjiao.

The last (also the first) time an Indian male player won a World Championship medal - a bronze by Prakash Padukone in 1983 - was exactly a decade before Srikanth was born.

On a 12-match winning streak, Srikanth knocked out World No. 18 Antonsen 21-14, 21-18.

They could face each other in the semifinals at the US Open , the only major tournament where they have never met head-to-head. Open champion and No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russian Federation could be in for a matchup in the quarterfinals.

"It will be a tough match but I have been improving with each match and looking forward for a good game tomorrow", Srikanth added.

Praneeth fought hard before going down 21-19, 10-21, 12-21 to World No. 4 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei, while Jayaram, who had disposed off The Netherland's Mark Caljouw on Wednesday, was no match for two-time defending champion Chen Long of China as he lost 11-21, 10-21 in 41 minutes.

"Well I am happy with the way I have played today and I am pleased with the results".

Srikanth started the second game with a string of jump smashes but nothing could crumble Wan-ho, who went into the mid-game break with a seven-point lead (11-4). Sindhu, who is the ideal front-runner, but whose closing-out skills have always been suspect, will need to be on her full mettle in the second game against Yufei, who has already been identified as one of the world's best badminton talents for her speed, shuttle control, iron temperament and ability to outlast an opponent in a ding-dong battle. On both counts, Srikanth won Super Series titles.

As for his meeting with top-seeded Korean Son Wan Ho, who was taken to three games by Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, Srikanth said, "You can not go by past records. This is one of the biggest tournaments of the year and I want to do well", Son said, after his win over Saensomboonsuk, as quoted by the BWF's official website. Srikanth, once again, slipped early but made a strong comeback to take the R16 match 15-21, 21-13, 21-13.

But Srikanth won hearts, when a couple of his deceptive strokes bemused the Korean and the scoreline read 16-10; he nearly turned the tide but it was Wan-ho who had the last laugh. The Hong Kong girl then moved to a 16-13 lead.
