Packers make it official, sign linebacker Brooks

James Jones, who last played in the NFL in 2015 with the Green Bay Packers, announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday.

The team formerly known for its draft-and-develop philosophy - or rigid ideology, if you prefer - signed its seventh veteran free agent of the year Tuesday, adding ex-San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Quinton Dial. Dial played most of his snaps at nose tackle previous year.

Peppers signed a three-year, $26 million contract with the Packers and fulfilled the entire thing, totaling 25 regular-season sacks and making two NFC Championship Game appearances. He scored in double digits three times a year ago for the Celtics, all coming in wins.

"I feel great. I feel like I got a new knee, I feel unbelievable", Lockett said, adding that he couldn't divulge too many details about the procedure because "we're not supposed to talk about it too much". The result? Seattle's first loss by more than 10 pts in more than 5 years. "You get more comfortable going against them". On offense, free agent tight ends Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks spice up a potent passing attack.

Amazon Hit With Irma Price-Gouging Complaints
While Irma's exact path is uncertain, the hurricane could make landfall in Florida by the end of the week. Most airlines typically offer travel vouchers for flights that were already booked and are affected.

Breakout watch: They might not miss Peppers and/or Jones in the front seven if 2016 first-round pick Kenny Clark can emerge at defensive tackle.

Two drafted rookie receivers were also released in DeAngelo Yancey (fifth round) and Malachi Dupre (seventh round). When asked about the 6-foot-4, 259-pound veteran, Packers associate head coach/linebackers coach Winston Moss spoke highly of Brooks' resume. But earlier this offseason, he acknowledged that some roster moves date back to how much he and his scouting staff liked a player as a college prospect.

This year, New England will have star quarterback Tom Brady from the start, although he will not have top target Julian Edelman to throw to after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the preseason. It is the first time the Packers have hosted Seattle in Week 1 but the second time they have faced the Seahawks in the season opener (at Seattle, 2014). To make room for him on the roster, guard Don Barclay, who has an ankle injury, went on injured reserve.

This season's "Get Closer to the Packers" campaign features interactive in-stadium, online and community activities, and an opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind behind-the-scenes experience. "I feel like the way the Packers have done with Coach McCarthy - I think we've had a very successful setup here".
