Playing in front of their home supporters, the Red Devils will look to capitalise on an out-of-form Basel side.

This year, the Premier League has a slight advantage which might increase their chances of success - thanks to Manchester United winning last season's Europa League, the Premier League has five representatives in the Champions League proper, more than any other league.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain will unleash Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for the first time in Europe as they travel to Celtic. Though it is not yet revealed when exactly we might see the 29-year-old on the pitch again, Mourinho will surely be wishing his "important" player a quick recovery, especially with European football looming over their heads.

Juventus have appeared in two of the last three finals.

Last season's Europa League winners were drawn in Group A alongside Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow. The first leg was a draw match as both sides scored three goals each.

For instance, Romelu Lukaku obtained no Champions League minutes with his time at Everton. That is the second most for a Russian side after Spartak Moscow (12). The Old Trafford club are level on points with cross-town rivals Manchester City but lead the table on goal difference, as per the National. Real legend Raul, for so long the Champions League benchmark, is way behind in third with 71 goals.

This season, United have arguably their best squad since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager and they now occupy first position on the Premier League standings.

United competed in the Champions League for 18 consecutive seasons before only qualifying for it in one of the last three and Mourinho admitted this will be a new experience for some of his charges.

The Belgium worldwide has started well for the Red Devils since his £75million summer move from Everton, scoring five goals in his first five games for the club.

Moyes replaced Ferguson, but was sacked after 10 months following poor league results and the team's exit from domestic cup competitions and the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Two years previously, United crashed out of the Champions League in the group phase after a 2-1 defeat at Basle's St Jakob-Park stadium that was compounded by a gruesome knee injury sustained by captain Nemanja Vidic.

- This is the 20th time in the last 21 seasons that Bayern Munich have qualified for the Champions League, the only exception coming in 2007-08.

Shakhtar Donetsk is a well-known side across Europe, regularly qualifying for Europe's top-flight, as they have done for the six previous seasons before last season when they failed to qualify.

And Ben Woodburn, Liverpool's prodigious 17-year-old forward, also has the potential to make a huge impact on the Champions League stage, if not this season, then in the future. With seven goals in seven games, the striker is not short on confidence.
