NKorea Warns US of Retaliation for Tough UN Sanctions

The drafting a new sanctions resolution, which could include a proposal to block oil sales to North Korea. Therefore, it is time for the United States to accept the reality that North Korea is a nuclear power.

Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said it was vital to put pressure on North Koreathrough additional sanctions, including blocking or slowing its fuel supplies. It would mean, for example, ending trade between the US and China unless China agreed to cut off all trade with North Korea. "Never. Especially after the end of the Cold War, the North Koreans fell into a hard situation and could not get enough help from China, so they determined to help themselves".

Pyongyang held a banquet, concert and performances in a weekend display of pageantry on Sunday to celebrate the September 3 nuclear test, which the North said was a hydrogen bomb that could be fitted onto a rocket.

Trump's threat came after Pyongyang detonated what it claimed was a hydrogen bomb able to fit atop a missile.

McCain stressed a need to strengthen ties with allies Japan and South Korea. Later that day he fired off another tweet suggesting that the considering "stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea".

That includes Trump, whose pronouncements on North Korea have been inconsistent to the point of incoherence. Haley may have been exaggerating when she said that the government of Kim Jong Un is "begging for war"; but she was right to characterize its recent actions as threatening.

Finally, Trump's warning, that "the United States is considering, in addition to other options, stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea", would be impossible to implement, especially with China, whose trade with the USA runs into the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Mexico also suffered the passage of Hurricane Katia , which has left severe damage to the state of Veracruz and at least two dead.

To prevent further escalation of the conflict, the USA needs to accept the new reality of a nuclear North Korea, just as it had come to terms with both India and Pakistan as nuclear powers; this created mutual deterrence, and brought an end to the conventional wars between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Kang Monday also clarified that her government does not support basing US tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea, despite the fact that the country's defense minister said last week that such a USA nuclear deployment was under review. It will take a united global front to crack down effectively on the sources providing North Korea with the hard currency and materiel that sustain its nuclear efforts.

That said, the administration - again, rightly - is rebuffing suggestions from Russian Federation and China that it attempt to revive negotiations by agreeing to a deal in which North Korea would freeze its nuclear testing program in exchange for a cessation of joint military exercises by the US and South Korea.

Putin has remained firm however that such sanctions on oil would have negative humanitarian effects on North Koreans.

Under such a deal, North Korea would have to fully comply to every provision of the accord, rejoin the Non-Proliferation Treaty and adhere to the rules and requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency, especially on the stationing of monitors and stringent inspections to ensure full compliance.

We must now accept the fact that North Korea is a nuclear power, and rely on nuclear deterrence, while normalizing relations in the process.
