Customers will also be able to transfer between its own flights at Gatwick.

EasyJet said it will sign up other airlines to the new system and discussions are "already far advanced" with Middle Eastern and Far Eastern carriers among others.

Passengers taking connecting flights via London Gatwick - like those travelling from Aberdeen to NY - will be able to book the entire trip on easyJet's website in one booking.

The company expect the service to expand to other key airports in Europe in future, including airports where Norwegian also offers long-haul connections such as Paris Charles De Gaulle and Barcelona.

Launched by EasyJet today, the service means passengers can seamlessly connect their EasyJet flight with Norwegian's fast-growing network of affordable long-haul flights to the USA, Asia and South America.

This will give smaller airlines access to a larger market as around 360 million visits were made to easyJet's website in the past 12 months.

Under the Worldwide scheme, passengers will also be able to connect with other easyJet flights.

Apparently Worldwide won't impact on easyJet's punctuality, its asset utilisation or operating model. "With simple bag transfer and missed connection cover travelling around the world just got a whole lot easier", it added.

Customers will still have to recheck their own baggage between flights, although this can be done in baggage reclaim through the Gatwick Connect service.

Low-priced carrier easyjet PLC (LON:EZJ) has signed agreements that allow its passengers to transfer on to Norwegian Air and WestJet long-haul flights at Gatwick airport.

"By opening this new market segment this now means that easyJet can access a greater range of passengers flying across Europe".

Norwegian Chief Commercial Officer Thomas Ramdahl said: "Travel should be affordable for all so we are delighted to partner with another quality low-priced airline like easyJet to offer passengers even more choice". The service will offer the same connectivity "simply and efficiently", according to Easyjet.

"Many of our guests already self-connect between WestJet and easyJet flights and this new booking tool will make it easier than ever before to travel throughout Europe from Canada and back".
