Explosion at cricket stadium during match - at least three dead

Several ambulances were seen speeding away from the scene, apparently taking the injured to hospital, an AFP reporter said.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed the blast outside the Kabul International Cricket Stadium, Afghan media reports said.

As per the reports, the attack is a case of suicide bombing and took place at 3:45 pm (local time) on Wednesday afternoon. A civilian and a security official have already lost their lives in the explosion.

The blast reportedly took place while a game was being played, near one of the gates of the stadium, Ministry of Interior spokesman Najib Danish told CNN.

There were no immediate details on the casualties but Tolo News Television quoted the Afghan Cricket Board as saying all players were safe.

Berlin has argued that it can safely repatriate people to Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan, even as Taliban and Islamic State militants terrorise much of the country.

Afghanistan has always been a victim of terrorism and has been deprived of regular global cricket games due to security concerns.
