S.Korea confirms traces of radioactive gas from N.Korea's nuclear test

China and Russian Federation are putting forward a roadmap for the settlement of the North Korean crisis via diplomatic means; however in this scenario it seems like calling the U.S. to the round table is more hard than calling on the DPRK, according to political analyst Konstantin Asmolov, in an interview with Sputnik.

South Korea is assembling a "decapitation unit" in its military in a thinly veiled threat to North Korean leader Kim Jung Un and his top aides as they escalate a nuclear missile program, The New York Times reported.

While not imposing a flat-out ban on oil exports to Pyongyang, as originally proposed by the United States, the UN Council's resolution imposes a cap on crude exports at current levels of about 4 million barrels a year, and puts a cap of 2 million barrels a year on refined petroleum products.

The U.N. Security Council's new restrictions could further bite into North Korea's meager economy after what Kim Jong Un's authoritarian government says was a hydrogen bomb test September 3.

Briefing the US lawmakers, Treasury Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Marshall Billingslea displayed satellite photos to demonstrate North Korea's deceptive shipping practices.

The heightened tensions over the North's nuclear weapons program could have a substantial impact on South Korea's economy and disrupt trade between the United States and China, Ratings agency Fitch said on Monday.

"We are not looking for war".

A ban on oil exports to North Korea was dropped from Monday's United Nations resolution.

The U.N. Security Council was scheduled to vote late Monday on a new, watered-down sanctions resolution against North Korea that eliminates initial US demands to ban all oil imports to the country and freeze worldwide assets of the government and its leader Kim Jong Un.

North Korea has rejected and strongly condemned the UN Security Council's new resolution over its latest nuclear test.

Photos released on Sunday by KCNA showed the young leader breaking into a broad smile at the People's Theatre with two prominent scientists, Ri Hong Sop, head of North Korea's Nuclear Weapons Institute, and Hong Sung Mu, deputy director of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea's munitions industry department.

"The DPRK will redouble the efforts to increase its strength to safeguard the country´s sovereignty and right to existence", the ministry said, using the abbreviation for North Korea´s formal name.

China, however, sees no need to trigger a potential catastrophe on its border over what it regards as fundamentally a dispute between the US and North Korea.

The revised resolution expresses the council's "determination to take further significant measures" in the event of a new nuclear test or ballistic missile launch.

"In case the USA eventually does rig up the illegal and unlawful "resolution" on harsher sanctions, the DPRK shall make absolutely sure that the US pays due price", the spokesman said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.

Joint ventures will be banned and the names of senior North Korean official and three entities were added to a United Nations sanctions blacklist that provides for an assets freeze and a global travel ban.

Following North Korea's country's sixth and most powerful nuclear test on September 3, two senior NATO diplomats told Reuters that protection against the North Korean threat was only beginning to be considered at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

More action is expected to follow, only deepening North Korea's isolation, but there's a widespread belief that it won't be enough to stop Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions.
