Nintendo also committed to providing "dramatically" more units of its upcoming release, the Super NES Classic Edition, when it launches on september 29 - with the company promising to ship out more Super NES Classics on Day 1 than were shipped of the NES Classic all past year. More details on the rerelease will be announced soon.

After announcing in April its plans to axe the iconic video gaming system, Nintendo officials said Tuesday gamers would be able to purchase new shipments of the retro console and games next summer.

In addition to this the Japanese firm has said that it will ship additional NES Classic Edition consoles in 2018.

Production of the console, which also sold out soon after pre-orders went live, was originally scheduled to stop by the end of the year. The console is expected to sell out just as quickly as it did when it was released on the same date past year, but Best Buy is now taking pre-orders of the SNES.

According to Nintendo, the decision to relaunch the Nintendo NES Classic came following the high demand for Nintendo SNES. He also urged customers not to pay more than the suggested retail price on auction sites, suggesting there will be enough supply to meet the feverish demand.

The console ($60) touts 30 built-in games, including "Mario Bros." and "Donkey Kong", and a retro-inspired controller. The titles included are "Final Fantasy III", "Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past", and "Star Fox 2".
