Target Hiring 100000 Seasonal Employees For Holidays

Target Corp. announced a major investment for the holiday shopping season.

Target plans to hire 30,000 more people than a year ago during the holiday season to improve customer service.

Nationwide, Target plans to hire 100,000 workers for the holiday season at its 1,816 stores plus another 4,500 at the company's distribution and fulfillment centers.

Shares of Target were last seen up nearly 3% at $59.50, with a consensus analyst price target of $58.90 and a 52-week range of $48.56 to $79.33. This comes not long after Amazon slashed prices at grocery store giant Whole Foods. Getting help with online orders or picking up those items at a store has been a "pretty lousy experience" at many retailers, he said.

Joel Bines, head of retail practice and a managing director at consulting firm AlixPartners, says Target's holiday hiring strategy indicates how hiring related to online services is moving to the stores.

The company announced on its "A Bullseye View" blog that it will hire approximately 100,000 new team members across all of its USA stores. This marks a significant increase from past year, when it hired 70,000 seasonal workers.

Target Corp. said it will hold nationwide hiring events from October 13 through October 15. Current Target employees can also add extra holiday hours to their schedules.
