Selena stated that Lupus continues to be misunderstood by the public and that this prompted her decision to open up about her recent kidney transplant.

"I've never been more proud to call you my friend, my family and someone I couldn't live my life without. He knew what was going on with her health even though they have not been in touch for some time", a source close to Bieber said, as quoted by Hollywoodlife.

On Thursday, Gomez revealed on social media that the reason she quietly stepped back from her career over the summer was because she was recovering from a kidney transplant. Kesha, Lady GaGa and Demi Lovato were among those who applauded the "Fetish" singer for her courageous battle against lupus. Selena needed a transplant due to lupus, an autoimmune disease and it was her best friend Francia Raisa who donated her kidney to her. It is then revealed that the "Kill 'Em With Kindness" singer had previously undergone a kidney transplant surgery over the summer because of her Lupus.

Although Gomez has yet to make her adoption Instagram official, she has posted a video staring her puppy on her Instagram story, as has her friend, photographer Petra Collins. "It was what I needed to do for my overall health".

"Thank God they're both doing great", she continued. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.

"There aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my lovely friend Francia Raisa". I am incredibly blessed.

Following a private performance for fans to celebrate her upcoming album, Tell Me You Love Me, on September 15, 2017 in Los Angeles, Lovato opened up to People about her thoughts on Gomez.
