Kelly looked embarrassed during Trump's United Nations speech

"Major portions of the world are in conflict and some in fact are going to hell", Trump said. He made little mention of Russian Federation.

"The United Nations was founded on truly noble goals", he said, adding that while progress has been made, "in recent years the United Nations has not reached its full potential, because of bureaucracy and mismanagement".

Ethiopia's U.N. Mission, which holds the council presidency, said nine presidents, three vice presidents, six prime ministers, three deputy prime ministers and more than 30 foreign ministers are scheduled to attend the day-long session where 71 countries have signed up to speak. After a litany of accusations - the starvation of millions, the abduction of a Japanese girl and more - he questioned the legitimacy of the communist government by referring to it as a "band of criminals".

"The United States is ready, willing and able (to take military action) but hopefully this will not be necessary", he said.

But it has evacuated the southern part of its popular Mount Paekdu tourist site on the border with North Korea.

The administration has given mixed signals on foreign policy, too.

Having been delayed twice due to Malaysia's fears for the safety of its players, the match between North Korea and Malaysia is now set to be played on Oct 5.

Members of the administration have repeatedly emphasized that a range of military options are on the table and Mattis said Monday that the USA possess military options that would not put Seoul at risk of a North Korean counterattack with the potential to kill tens of thousands of civilians.

The US Senate passed its version of a $700 billion defense policy bill on Monday, backing President Donald Trump's call for a bigger, stronger military but setting the stage for a battle over government spending levels later this year.

He said he would continue to place America's interests ahead of other countries', suggesting his counterparts do the same with their own populations.

Karim Benzema agrees to new contract with Real Madrid
Real Madrid and Karim Benzema have agreed to extend the player's contract, which is linked to the club until June 30, 2021. But his weekly salary doesn't compare to the buyout clause in the Frenchman's new deal.

He said the United States was prepared to combat global instability through military might.

North Korea has threatened the United States with a "horrible nuclear strike and miserable and final ruin", saying that it is ready to "destroy the enemies' bases" with a pre-emptive strike if they show "any slight sign of provocation". And he hinted that his administration, which has accused Tehran of aiding terrorism in the Middle East, could soon declare Iran out of compliance with the deal, which could unravel it.

Trump called the Iran deal one-sided and "an embarrassment to the United States".

Trump faces a mid-October deadline for re-certifying Iran's compliance with the agreement.

Trump's speech was well received by members of the conservative establishment.

Before her selection as ambassador, Haley made national headlines when as governor she led a successful effort to remove the Confederate battle flag, viewed by many as a racist emblem, from the grounds of the SC state capitol after the killing of nine black churchgoers in her state.

Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, who was observed crossing her arms, told the BBC: "It was the wrong speech, at the wrong time, to the wrong audience". He has been so critical of the United Nations.

Domestically, reaction largely broke down along party lines: Democratic Sen.

"We are a world in pieces", Guterres said.
