IPhone 8 Plus has the best smartphone camera

That's according to camera testing site DxOMark, which says that Apple's new flagship range tops its charts in almost every category, featuring "outstanding image quality".

DxOMark has completed its review of the iPhone 8 Plus and declared it to be the best smartphone camera it's ever tested.

The HTC-manufactured Google Pixel and the HTC U11 just lost their DxOMark crowns.

The sensor improvements and new features in the iPhone 8 gave it a score of 92, whilst the dual-camera iPhone 8 Plus scores 94 ...

The score of 94 puts in 2 points ahead of the new iPhone 8 and 4 points ahead of the Google Pixel and HTC U11. An improved exposure calculation and the ability to capture HDR (High Dynamic Range) scenes in a better manner when compared to iPhone 7 series, has helped the smartphone beat out the previous leaders. Its rear camera was identical to the main camera of the iPhone 8 Plus, which had the only edge in terms of the zoom and bokeh effect provided by the secondary camera.

Apple iPhone 8, 8 Plus appear to have topped the scores when it comes to mobile photography. The iPhone 7 Plus scores a much lower 88 points, while the iPhone 7 only manages to get 85 points. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus go on sale to customers today.

Apple's latest iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus handsets are equipped with cameras that are significantly superior to some of the premium Android flagships, according to comprehensive reviews of both new Apple handsets published by DxOMark on Friday.

The iPhone 8 Plus' dual camera setup features a 12-megapixel (wide-angle) camera with a f/1.8 aperture, as well as a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with a f/2.8 aperture. Other features include digital zoom up to 10x, Portrait mode, Optical image stabilisation, Quad-LED True Tone flash, Autofocus, and AutoHDR.
