Urges residents to get flu shot after early flu-related death

According to CDC recommendations, being immunized early in the flu season ensures that protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is at its highest.

County health officials said the 86-year-old man had not been vaccinated and died on October 1.

"This death is an unfortunate reminder that influenza can be fatal", said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer.
