Can't open your News-Journal app? Here's the fix

Every time Apple launches a new iPhone, there is talk from some of their old iPhone slowing or the battery not working as efficiently as before. There's also the possibility that your mind is playing tricks on you, making you think your iPhone slowed down to help justify the decision to buy that shiny new model Apple just announced.

Futuremark, a Finnish company that builds hardware performance benchmarks, collected more than 100,000 benchmarks from iPhone 5S, 6, 6S and 7 over the past year to see if there was a noticeable drop in performance after iOS upgrades.

CPU performance did decline in the results, but only slightly, and the graph leveled off from May 2017 onward.

If you're testing watchOS developer betas you can instal the update by launching the Watch app on your iPhone, then go to My Watch General Software Update after you install iOS 11.1 developer beta 2. Attributing the performance to "minor iOS updates or other factors", the company said that such a marginal difference in performance is unlikely to be noticed by users in everyday use.

While new batteries have greater longevity, through new electrode, electrolyte and controller technology, the battery in your four-year-old iPhone 5S is nearly certainly worse than when it was new.

That's because as smartphones get more powerful and more capable with each new release, apps and services are also updated.

There is an easy fix: if you are unable to open the News-Journal e-Edition app on your device, simply delete the app. The Facebook app is a ideal example of this. New iOS versions always come with some new features, which may consume more processing power, thus resulting in some users seeing their old iPhone slowing.
