Michigan State's Joe Bachie named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

Michigan State's Joe Bachie named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

Mark Dantonio's team came up with one of the biggest upsets of the week as they toppled No. 7 MI in Ann Arbor on Saturday night. Michigan State return man Laress Nelson muffled a punt off the leg of Brad Robbins, forcing the Spartans to start at their own two-yard line.

Penn State and MI are going to face off under the lights at Beaver Stadium.

His Spartans came in a heavy underdog, to face their biggest rival, and matched U-M's physicality from the start. MI is now ranked 118th in sacks allowed - MSU had four against the Wolverines - and 115th in tackles for loss allowed.

That led to a field goal.

Needing a touchdown, MI got one final chance. "We are an attacking defense". Don't blame that on the rain, though - just 46 yards came in the second half.

And the game became a game of survival.

Asked where it ranks in his career, Dantonio raised his hand over his head and said, "It's up there, it's way up there". The offense has steadily gotten worse since the season began, which is never a good thing given that's supposed to be Harbaugh's specialty. More than 100 cities are in contention - spanning both the USA and Canada. The Spartans don't have a dominant pass rusher off the edge. "They tackled the football ... they ripped it out". There is also a very good chance that ESPN will select the matchup to broadcast College GameDay from, however, they don't usually select a location until the Sunday before the game.

The team is playing much tougher than they used to.

Emre Can nets first-ever Germany goal in standout showing against Azerbaijan
Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka has targeted starring at the World Cup after the defending champions set a new qualifying record. Suele limped off on 22 minutes to be replaced by Chelsea's Ruediger before Mustafi went down in the build-up to the equaliser.

MI lined up to punt with 10 seconds left and the leading, needing to snap the ball, punt it and avoid giving up a touchdown.

Just mere moments after the Spartans stunned U-M on the road, linebacker Chris Frey knew what he was missing - the Paul Bunyan trophy.

These three look like the sort who can help him do it again. Was Saturday night more of the same? However, Lewerke has yet to play on the road this season and one has to wonder if he will yield similar results in "The Big House".

Dave Warner takes a lot of heat for lacking creativity.

Miami moved to 4-0 with its dramatic win over the Seminoles, featuring a go-ahead touchdown by Darrell Langham with six seconds remaining. I'm the kind of guy who is watching basketball at 7 PM and then watching tennis at 1 A.M. Khalid Hill dove into the end zone on the next play to cut the score to 14-10. The linemen leaked out perfectly. It was O'Korn's second start at QB for MI, and it was not a good one.

But an even better design. Dantonio's response at the time of "Pride before the fall" remains MSU's calling card.

Michigan won last year's game, 32-23, but Michigan State is 7-3 in the series under coach Mark Dantonio, including the stunning, 27-23, win over then first-year coach Jim Harbaugh in 2015. That set a tone before the monsoon hit. You can't blame it on the rain.
