Egyptian national soccer team has qualified for the World Cup finals to be held next year in Russian Federation after beating Congolese national team with 2-1 in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria.

The midfielder's crucial 95th minute penalty secured a 2-1 win over Congo in Alexandria, sparking jubilant scenes.

"Maybe we don't play lovely football but we are at the World Cup and that's the most important thing", Cuper said.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was the hero with a brace as the Pharaohs reached the finals for the first time in 27 years, in the process ending Ghana's feint hopes of qualification.

I am proud of all the players but especially of Mohammed Salah who was courageous enough to take the crucial penalty, the president said.

"That was to me a dream come true, whether as a footballer or an Egyptian citizen and fan".

"We are determined to make the country and continent proud in Russian Federation", said Salah who plays in the English Premier League. All that mattered was the fans, we wanted to make them happy and we did, " Ramadan Sobhi said on Sunday.

Egypt have won the Africa Cup of Nations title on seven occasions but have only been to the World Cup twice in 1934 and 1990 and are yet to win a game at the finals. It all happened because of everyone's support, " the former Al Ahly winger concluded.
