Russia Signs S-400 Missiles Deal With Saudi Arabia

The State Department has approved a potential $15 billion foreign military sale of anti-ballistic missile defense systems, related equipment and support services to Saudi Arabia.

U.S. military sales to Saudi Arabia has come under increased scrutiny as a Saudi-led coalition is involved in military intervention in Yemen. "We want to have good ties with everybody", he said.

"THAAD's exo-atmospheric, hit-to-kill capability will add an upper-tier to Saudi Arabia's layered missile defense architecture".

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Saudi Arabia's King Salman for talks at the Kremlin last week, cementing a relationship that is pivotal for world oil prices and could decide the outcome of the conflict in Syria. US Congress has 30 days to object.

The S-400 is a very capable missile-defense system, somewhat comparable to the US's MIM-104 Patriot, according to CSIS.
