Arjen Robben retires from Netherlands duty after Sweden defeat

Netherlands coach Dick Advocaat paid tribute to Arjen Robben following his retirement from global football, accepting that they "will miss" one of the world's "best players".

The Dutch, however, lacked the necessary creativity as Sweden shut up shop in the second half and the match fizzled out, leaving the Netherlands in third place.

He is joint fourth on the Netherlands' all-time goalscorer list, level with former Arsenal forward Dennis Bergkamp.

"Normally it would be attractive, but it is tough not to go to the World Cup", Robben said, as he ended a career that had many high points on a low.
