Facebook, Instagram down in parts of US & Europe

There was widespread panic among Facebook and Instagram users on Wednesday afternoon (October 10), as the two billion-member social network went offline in a number of countries. However, some unfortunate users may find themselves without either for the immediate future, as both websites have become inactive in select parts of the globe.

Services tied to Facebook, like SocialFlow, have reported issues with the platform's publishing API, too. "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible", a Facebook spokesperson told Reuters. This site is showing that over 12,000 people have reported issues with their account today, first beginning at 8:20 A.M. EST.

Numerous thousands of users affected took to rival social network Twitter to complain about the lack of service.

Facebook-owned photo-sharing network Instagram too is down.

Actress Hilarie Burton claims Ben Affleck groped her on 'TRL' in 2003
We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters. However, Burton wasn't the only female star who was shocked by Affleck's remarks.

Another person suggested, optimistically, that the fall of Facebook would mean "people might reset to baseline human status".

Several users were reporting issues with Instagram as well.

The outage affected users across the world, including Japan, Brazil, India, the majority of Europe and the United States.
