How to stop lice spreading through Halloween costumes

Scratching your head trying to find the flawless Halloween costume?

Ah, Halloween. A time to trade the very real horrors of the world for infinitely more fun fake horrors, like a ghoulish pumpkin display or head lice waiting in store-bought costumes!

The store has just released an unbelievable variety of costumes for kids that you can grab for only $20!

They didn't realize how easily head lice can spread when trying on a mask, wig or hat. "And a lot of people don't give much thought into the fact that several people could've tried it on before them", Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Cherie Sexton told the station.

If you bring a costume home and don't want to risk lice coming along too, either put it in the dryer on high for 45 minutes, or put them in plastic bags for two days to kill the lice. The American Academy of Pediatrics said there is no reason children with lice to be kept away from school.

Or wear a swim cap or wig cap when trying masks and other items on.

She also recommends cleaning clothing and bedding and restricting head-to-head contact until the lice are gone.
