Sushma helps Russian tourist begging for alms

As per IANS report, the 24-year-old Evangelin was seeking alms at a temple in Kancheepuram after finding that his debit card ATM pin was locked and he was left with no money. Swaraj in a tweet assured all possible help to Evangelin.

Evangelin has been in India since September 24 and came to Kancheepuram on October 10 from Chennai.

After reports of the 24-year-old foreigner having to beg, the External Minister on Tuesday took to Twitter offering help saying, "Evangelin - Your country Russian Federation is our time-tested friend". He went to Kancheepuram from Chennai, and visited a few temples in the town. "My officials in Chennai will provide you all help", Swaraj said on Twitter.

Police arranged money for the Russian and asked him to contact consulate officials in Chennai for help. An apparently frustrated Evangelin sat at the entrance of the temple along with other destitutes, begging for alms at the temple entrance, reports The Hindu. He was visiting a few religious sites when he went to an ATM near Kumarakottam temple, where his passcode got locked.

Navy relieves two officers of duty following deadly USS McCain crash
Alfredo Sanchez assumed duties as the McCain's executive officer in April 2015 and became the ship's commander in September 2016. Ed Angelinas, former commanding officer of the USS McCampbell, was named acting commanding officer of the McCain.

When the local police came to know about this, they reached the spot and took him to the police station.

Though the devotees spared money for him, they were surprised at the sight of a foreigner seeking alms and alerted the police.

32-year-old A. Evangelin Berdnikov was found begging outside the main entrance of a temple in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

However, this is not the first instance when Sushma Swaraj came to help of needy people in foreign lands.
