Mother Killed In Crash After Visiting Newborn Twins At Hospital

KTLA reports that Evans was on her way back from a visit to see her newborn daughters Hannah and Sarah - not even 8 weeks old yet - on Friday when tragedy struck.

According to People, Katie was almost home from the hospital before she was involved in the horrific vehicle accident. She was allegedly thrown from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Dan Dantice of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station told local newspaper The Signal that a driver veered onto oncoming traffic and hit Evans near the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Valley Center Drive in Santa Clarita, California.

A YouCaring page has now been set up in an effort to help her husband care for the prematurely-born twins and their four other children. Caralee Evans went on to say Evans' husband, Jacob, had called them that night saying he was anxious that Katie hadn't made it home.

He said he had people over when he broke the devastating news to the children about their mother's death. She was released "pending further charges", Dantice told the Signal.

"We had people here when I told the kids that their mom was gone", Evans recalled, his voice choked with emotion. "They said her body was thrown from the vehicle".

The YouCaring page was created by his sister, Natalie Mortensen, who hasn't left her brother's side since the fatal crash.

At first, Jacob Evans thought he would have to move the family out of Southern California, but thanks to the incredible support, that might change.

A YouCaring fundraiser has been started to help cover living expenses for the family.

As of Monday evening, the fundraising page has raised more than $168,000 out of a $200,000 goal.

The update continued that the twins "are doing surprisingly well", and are expected to go home in 4 to 6 weeks.

Caralee says Evans visited her little ones almost every day, and a photo showed the proud mom smiling wide as she held the tiny girls.

The 22-year-old suspect was treated at a hospital and later booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI.
