Trump to Nominate Kirstjen Nielsen as Homeland Security Secretary, Official Says

Kirstjen Nielsen, John Kelly's principal deputy chief of staff, has been nominated to serve as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Trump's announcement could come as early as Wednesday, Politico reported, citing two administration officials and three outside advisers familiar with the matter.

Before her time in the private sector, she served during the President George W. Bush administration as special assistant to the president and as senior director for prevention, preparedness and response at the White House Homeland Security Council.

The White House will nominate Kirstjen Nielsen to head the Department of Homeland Security, a senior US government official confirmed to FedScoop.

Whatever the case is, Swift was craving some good, old-fashioned attention when she tried to get fans to notice her. The country-pop crossover's forthcoming album, Reputation , is set for release on November 10 2017 .

She's the first nominee to lead DHS to have previously worked there.

Prior to joining Kelly at Homeland Security, Nielsen was president of the firm Sunesis Consulting. The White House had no immediate comment. But she raised eyebrows when she described the aftermath of Hurricane Maria as a "good news story". Her departure leaves Kelly looking to fill another crucial administrative vacancy. The department also is responsible for USA border security. A case challenging some aspects of the president's controversial ban on travelers from certain countries will soon be argued before the Supreme Court. She also ran the Transportation Security Administration's offices of legislative policy and government affairs, a section she started.

Nielsen was retired Marine Corps General John Kelly's chief of staff when he was secretary of Homeland Security during the opening months of Trump's presidency. She is a patriot and takes a mission-focused approach to her work. She was responsible for carrying out some of Kelly's orders on who gets access to the president.
