Employees injured in attempted escape at Elizabeth City prison

North Carolina Department of Public Safety tweeted Thursday afternoon that there was an "attempted escape at Pasquotank Cl in Elizabeth City".

Located in the Elizabeth City, North Carolina, the prisoners set fire to the prison's sewing plant to distract prison guards on the scene.

Elizabeth City's Sentara Albemarle Medical Center received six people requiring treatment, hospital spokesman Peter Sengenberger said.

Buses on after school routes, with students on board, were ordered to turn back around and return to the schools, "due to the potential of inmates being in the area", the ECPPS said on its Facebook page.
