Facebook will now let you order food

This provides the user with a one-stop shop to look at everything you can have delivered to your home, rather than having to visit individual apps and websites. There's certainly some work necessary to link all these restaurant pages with the services they use (and businesses can opt out of displaying the food ordering feature if they wish). Back in August, it expanded its Marketplace service - which offers Craigslist-like ads for local sales - to seventeen new European countries, taking the total number of locations it's available in to 24.

When a user wants to order from a restaurant that has a partnership with more than one delivery service, they can select which service they'd like to use and pay for the food through the delivery service.

VIDEO: Should I Friend My Boss on Facebook? Instead of competing directly with other food ordering services, Facebook is partnering with several industry players on this effort, including EatStreet,, DoorDash, ChowNow, Olo, Zuppler, and Slice.

Facebook is also partnering on food ordering directly with national chains Chipotle, Five Guys, Jack in the Box, Papa John's, Wingstop, Panera, TGI Friday's, Denny's, El Pollo Loco, and Jimmy John's.

What this does mean for Facebook, though, is that people will be more likely to spend a little more time on their platform than before.

That "we've been working on this for a year" bit surprised me. All Facebook is really doing here is launching an in-app browser so you can get a meal without ever leaving the app.
