Prakash Javadekar presents book 'Guru-Sangraha' to Shri Pranab Mukherjee

On Friday, former PM Manmohan Singh broke silence on being picked as Prime Minister ahead of his colleague and former President - Pranab Mukherjee.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar presented a book "Guru-Sangraha" which is a compilation of convocation addresses given by Shri Pranab Mukherjee to Shri Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India in New Delhi today. He said Pranab Mukherjee knew that neither he (Manmohan Singh) had the choice or any part in the decision.

He was quoted saying by ANI: "Pranab Mukherjee is a politician by choice and he is one of the greatest politicians living in our country".

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had stunned everyone when she appointed former finance minister Manmohan Singh the prime minister of the country when UPA came to power in 2004.

Police believe a solo skydiver may have collided with tandem skydivers mid-air, with their parachutes failing to deploy correctly. Skydiving is an attraction for adventure-minded tourists in the area, along with whitewater rafting on the Tully River, he added.

Mukherjee recalled how, barring a few years in between, the Congress pulled on its own strength before the coalition era came in 1996 when Deve Gowda became the Prime Minister followed by I.K. Gujral and then NDA led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Mukherjee wrote in his book that after the 2004 election victory there was intense speculation in the party about who would be the prime minister, but the consensus within the Congress was that the incumbent should be a political leader with experience in party affairs and administration. She has been the longest serving Congress president in the 125-year history of the party after being re-elected for the fourth time in September 2010. "We ran the government as cohesive team of which Pranab Mukherjee was the most imp member", Manmohan added.

Praising the book, Akhilesh Yadav said that it is like laying your hands on good notes before the examinations. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was present at the launch too.
