Hertha Berlin offered the world a vision of solidarity ahead of their Bundesliga game against Schalke by joining the #TakeAKnee movement now sweeping through the sporting world in the United States. "Hertha stands for diversity and is against violence".

President Trump said NFL players who refused to stand during the national anthem should be fired, comments that led to a large number of protests involving American football teams and owners.

The club's announcer told fans in attendance: "Berlin is colorful".
