Team India for three-match ODI series against New Zealand Announced

Ish Sodhi, the legspinner, and Tom Bruce, the middle-order batsman, were named in the Twenty20 worldwide side for the three-match series that will follow the ODIs.

Spinner Todd Astle and wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips are in line to make their one-day global debuts after being called into the New Zealand squad to play a limited overs series in India from late October.

The selectors continued to rest their faith on wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav while ignoring seniors Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. Batsman KL Rahul, who was in the T20 squad against Australia, also does not figure in the Indian ODI side. In his most recent worldwide games - a T20I and an ODI against West Indies in July - he scored 48 and 50* respectively.

The selection committee believes that since Umesh, Shami and Rahul will not find a place in the eleven, they should be given the opportunity to play in the Ranji Trophy.

The three-match ODI series will begin in Mumbai on October 22 while Pune (October 25) and Kanpur (October 29) will host the second and third match respectively.

Phillips played three List A matches against India "A" for New Zealand "A" and notched up a hundred in the first game while Astle bagged five wickets in three matches including a four-for.

New Zealand also announced their squad for the India tour, Glenn Phillips, Todd Astle have been included in the 15-man squad and will be in contention to make their debuts on the tour. What's the point in him just being in the squad and not playing?

Pacer Shardul Thakur and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik have made their way back into the national team.
