Virginia State University on lockdown after shooting, police say

ORIGINAL STORY: Virginia State University is on lockdown after gunfire rang out Saturday, police said. They said responding officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound with non-life-threatening injuries. "Avoid the area", the police wrote on Twitter, adding that the police scene was still active.

Other reports said the person who was shot was rushed to a local hospital and the suspect is described as a male wearing a white jersey. Campus lock down has been lifted.

The campus was on lock down for almost five hours as police investigated the shooting.

The arrest happened just a few hours after he posted a selfie with his wife Julie-Ann Goldsmith on his Twitter account. Goldsmith, who is one of Middleton's mother's brothers, was released on bail and due in court on October 31.

This is homecoming weekend at the university.

The Chesterfield Police Department says in a statement the incident happened about 8:25 p.m.
