Atlanta police charge mother after toddlers found dead

An Atlanta mom is accused of murdering two of her young sons and then placing a video call to the children's father to show him the scene, according to multiple local news reports.

Police spokesman John Chafee said they "do not believe the children's mother left the boys with a caregiver". Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said investigators don't believe her.

Officers were called out to the Oakland City West End Apartments on Friday night where two infants, 1-year-old Jakarter Penn and 2-year-old Keyounte Penn, were found dead.

Jameel Penn, the father of the boys, was at a vigil on Saturday night for the tragic brothers.

Her fourth child, an older girl, was safe at a family member's home when her siblings died, police say.

Neighbors didn't buy Williams' story, telling Atlanta station WGCL that Williams had left the children home alone before.

Smith said she advised Williams to call the police.

Williams and Penn also have a 3-year-old son, Jameel Penn Jr, who was found unharmed in the mother's apartment.

The official cause of death is pending an autopsy. He said Williams called Friday night 'and she is like, they're dead.

PEOPLE was unable to reach Penn on Monday for comment.

Relatives told the Constitution Journal that Williams suffered from an undiagnosed mental disorder.

Williams' longtime friend Neesa Smith said Williams quit a job about a month ago because she couldn't find a babysitter for the kids. "I also let them know, to put her on suicide watch because she's gonna kill herself".

Ashley Strange, a next-door neighbour who was in tears, said: "I treated those babies as if they were mine".
