Pakistan blast aimed at security forces kills at least six

Cheema said that an investigation is under way to determine whether it was a suicide bombing or the explosives-laden vehicle was detonated remotely when the police truck was passing by.

Quetta police chief Abdur Razzaq Cheema said the truck was carrying police recruits, four of whom were killed, along with two passersby.

Last week, five people were killed in an attack targeting the city's minority Hazara Shia Muslim community. While 22 others were injured and are being treated at the hospital in Quetta.

"We can not yet say that this is a suicide attack, our teams are in research and investigations at scene", Cheema said. He also said that these cowardly attacks would not hinder the security forces in executing their duties.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Police cordoned off the area around the blast site immediately following the attack.

The group of elite police were targeted on the Sariab road in the outskirts of Quetta, capital of Balochistan province, as they headed to work.

According to media reports, the injured were being shifted to Civil Hospital.

Chief Minister of Balochistan Sana Ullah Zehri condemned the attack and called for the best possible medical treatment to the injured.

The Taliban, Sunni Islam militants and sectarian groups linked to al Qaeda and the Islamic State group also operate in the strategically important region, which borders Iran as well as Afghanistan.

On August 13 this year, at least 15 people, including eight soldiers, were martyred when a military truck was targeted in Quetta.
