Browns' DeShone Kizer: Being benched 'sparked my competitive juices'

As expected, Hue Jackson informed the quarterbacks Wednesday morning that DeShone Kizer was being reinserted as the starter.

Kizer was benched at halftime of the Week 5 game against the New York Jets and sat last Sunday as Hogan was given the starting nod against the Houston Texans. Jackson said the second-year player has remained a motivated and valuable member of Cleveland's young quarterback room.

"I'm not going to say the rest of the season, but I know he's the guy right now", Jackson said. The Browns' record now stands at 0-6.

So Kizer traded his orange helmet for a brown baseball cap and watched as Hogan threw three interceptions in Cleveland's 33-17 loss to the Texans.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday morning, Kizer said he knew there would be another chance to him to play this season, and acknowledged that it's on him to make sure the question of him being benched never comes up again, and that he believes he has "the most hard job on Earth and the most enjoyable job on Earth".

Kizer has thrown just three touchdowns to nine interceptions this season. "Go out there and do my job to the best of my ability and make sure that No. 7 is out there leading this team for years to come".

Sessions: I Don't Know If Preemptive Trump Pardons Would Be Appropriate
Feinstein pressed him during her line of questioning anyway, asking what his designated role was in Comey's firing. He later added that he would look into it and follow up with a written response to the committee.

Due to Hogan's shaky performance against Houston, Kizer was once again named the starter Wednesday. You have to do more.

"When you don't get to play a lot of things happen and especially when it's something you want really bad", Jackson said. Additionally, Kizer took 12 sacks for 63 lost yards and had a rating of 49.5.

But his play was markedly different in the next four games.

NOTES: S Jabrill Peppers didn't practice because of a toe injury, but Jackson doesn't expect the first-round pick to be out long.

For his efforts, and because of sore ribs, Hogan will spend the upcoming game as the third-string quarterback, with Cody Kessler taking over the backup duties.

Britt hasn't played in the last two games because of injuries to his knee and groin.
