Man hands himself in with doughnuts after losing bet

Michael Zaydel said he would give himself up if a Facebook post about an arrest warrant received more than 1,000 shares - and even promised officers in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, a dozen doughnuts if they won the challenge.

Facebook comment by Zaydel on an unrelated post about a home invasion on October 6, the police threatened to block him from their page. "If it continues you will be blocked", they wrote.

In fact, it got more than 4,000 shares. "And that's a promise", he wrote. He also promised to "pick up every piece of litter" around local public schools.

Some might call it Community Policing 2.0 or simply letting a wanted man feed off the crowd how Redford Township police got Michael Zaydel into custody.

In a separate post on October 6, Sgt. Duane Gregg and Officer Jennifer Mansfield explained their reasoning behind the challenge, saying it was "fun" and "educational" at the same time, the New York Post said.

The police accepted the challenge.

On Tuesday morning, Zaydel was arraigned and sentenced to 39 days in jail for misdemeanours which included violating his probation and an attempted assault and battery charge.
