High Safety Rating Awarded to 2017 Jeep Compass

Automakers starting in 2018 will have another challenge to face in the crash-test contest: the passenger-side small overlap front test. While the 2017 Compass did receive a Top Safety Pick rating it missed out on the highest rating. Both the crew cab and the extended cab models of the F-150 receive good ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests and the optional front crash prevention system avoided collisions in IIHS track tests at 12 miles per hour and 25 miles per hour. Added to the roster in 2012, it's one of two front-collision challenges IIHS pits cars against: vehicles are driven at 40 miles per hour into a 5 foot tall, rigid barrier, which hits 25-percent of the front of the auto, biased toward the driver's side.

The 2018 Outback participated in the first test group that included 13 midsize cars and was one of the top performers according to IIHS.

Early testing of 2014-16 model year small SUVs found that not all with good driver-side ratings fared so well on the passenger-side test.

Since the Insurance Institute has been doing the challenging small overlap frontal crash test, manufacturers have strengthened the structure of the occupant compartment to better protect drivers. The changes have paid off: Among 2017 models, two-thirds earn a good rating. They've lengthened side-curtain airbags to gain added forward coverage and in some cases, they've extended bumpers.

Kershaw, a seven-time All-Star and former National League MVP, has never played in the World Series during this 10-year career. Now it's time for the Astros and Yankees to settle things in the American League. "Some of that is them executing pitches".

What's arguably the toughest crash test in USA automotive safety trials is getting an upgrade, with a new version of the small overlap test announced.

But the new F-150 qualifies for the IIHS Top Safety Pick rating only when equipped with the optional automatic braking system.

The Vokswagen Passat and the Chevy Malibu, on the other hand, had marginal ratings due to insufficient airbag protection.

"In both cars, the passenger dummy's head slid off the front airbag and contacted the dashboard", IIHS stated.
