Man drives auto on to pitch during Ranji Trophy match

In an freakish incident when a Ranji Trophy match was being played yesterday at the Air Force ground in Palam, one person drove a auto into the ground and parked it on the pitch, briefly halting the game.

This was the second security lapse in a cricket match in the last seven days. It is an important fixture between both the teams at Air Force Sports Complex in Palam "A" ground in New Delhi.

With a number of global stars such as Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina and Rishab Pant in action, the players could only look on in bemusement as Sharma drove over the pitch.

According ESPNcricinfo, the man identified as Girish Sharma claimed that he did not see any security and drove accidently on the pitch as he was lost.

A man drove his auto into the playing area and on to the pitch during a Ranji Trophy 2017-18 game on Friday (November 3), forcing a lengthy interruption to the match, and later claimed he had lost his way.

U.S. carries out first airstrikes against Islamic State in Somalia
American military drones conducted two airstrikes in northeastern Somalia targeting ISIS fighters, the official said. In April, President Donald Trump deployed US troops to Somalia for the first time in 20 years.

The incident took place at 4.40pm, 10 minutes after the scheduled close of play, after the umpires - Umesh Dubey and Rohan Pandit - had made a decision to extend the day's play by half an hour to fit in more overs.

As the Delhi fielders and UP batsmen, Akshdeep Nath and Imtiaz Ahmed - ran to save themselves from getting hit by the vehicle, Girish - who later told police that he works for the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at its Parliament Street branch - tried to make an "8" on the pitch as if he had come for a driving test.

The match referee examined the pitch for potential damage and found it in acceptable condition for the match to proceed.

The game was initially scheduled to be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla but was shifted out because of the Twenty20 worldwide that was played at the same venue on Wednesday.

The ground is adjacent to the Palam underpass, which is one of the busiest routes in New Delhi, connecting the Airport.
