Anthony Joshua warns Deontay Wilder to be 'realistic' with his demands

Anthony Joshua's hopes of challenging for another world heavyweight title moved a step closer after his promoter Eddie Hearn insisted a bout with Deontay Wilder "must get made in 2018".

Joshua has also been linked with fights against fellow Brit Tyson Fury and WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker but he says he would be happy to face Wilder - as long as the American does not overplay his hand at the negotiating table.

"I had a fight the week before him and then he fought [a brutal first-round knockout of Bermane Stiverne] and he mentioned I'm running scared".

"I'm not in the business of making promises I can't fulfil, that's why I'm working on getting this fight done".

However, "AJ" - who previously claimed he would fight Fury as well as unify the belts against Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker in 2018 - now states that he is unlikely the fight the trio all in a calendar year. I've still got a lot more energy.

"It is simple business".

Joshua, who retained his world titles with a tenth round stoppage of Carlos Takam last month, is apparently eager to get back in the ring as he wound up his potential future foes. 100 per cent. It's something that we're taking time to do and actually doing right now.

"If they are realistic about what they want, we can definitely make this fight happen".

He addressed Joshua directly: "To be honest with you my old mate, I don't need to get fit for somebody like you at all ... even at 25 stone".

"Lots of different permutations right now, lots of different venue options as well - talks of one fight in the United Kingdom, one fight in America between the two - but also an understanding that this is a huge fight and one that we must get made in 2018". "[You're] Always banging on about your loss to AJ and how great he is, at the end of they day you lost to AJ by TKO in what was a 50-50 fight right until the end". It is how you come back from that. That's just the way life is.
