Biggest diamond EVER sold at auction sells for £25MILLION

The largest diamond ever auctioned was sold in Geneva for a record Dollars 34 million, said Christie's auction house, quoted by the France press. D, according to gemologists, is the highest colour grade given to diamonds and indicates that the precious stone is absolutely colourless and therefore rare.

With a drawn-out round of rapid-fire bidding starting at £15million, the necklace was finally sold to a telephone bidder, who wished to remain anonymous.

A team of 10 specialists in NY cut the jewel from a rough 404-carat stone discovered in Angola a year ago, the biggest diamond ever found in that country. Ten diamond-cutting specialists worked on the rough in NY after it was analysed in Antwerp.

The stone has been processed for three weeks by a team of 14 jewelers.

A further highlight of the sale was Le Grand Mazarin, a light pink diamond of 19.07 carats, and one of the most famous and important Golconda diamonds in history.

Others speculated he had accidentally posted a draft version of a tweet sent in the wake of the Texas atrocity. Piers Morgan, a supporter of Mr Trump, said: "At least get your mass shootings right, Mr President.

It was the largest of its kind to ever be auctioned.

Christie's said the seller was a private collector, but did not reveal their identity. This is the first time that the spectacular diamond has been sold at public auction since the famous sale of the French Crown Jewels in 1887.

Christie's jewel auction, which raked in sales totalling 105.4 million Swiss francs, will be followed today by a similar auction at Sotheby's.

The Geneva fall auction season concludes on Wednesday, when Sotheby's will auction a pink diamond estimated to be worth as much as $30m.
