Florida State bans Greek life after a pledge's death

As a result of this tragedy, I have suspended activities of all Greek fraternity and sorority chapters at Texas State.

All Greek chapters on Texas State University's campus have been suspended in the wake of a death that happened Sunday. New member events, social functions and chapter meetings will not be allowed until student affairs completes a review of Greek life at the university.

The school's vice president for student affairs, Joanne Smith, has been tasked with coming up with recommendations for reinstating the fraternities and sororities "that demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Texas State", Trauth said.

Matthew McKinley Ellis, who was pledging to the university's Phi Kappa Psi chapter, was found at the Millennium Apartments, less than two miles from the Central Texas campus, after 11 a.m. Monday. Judge Maggie Moreno pronounced Ellis deceased at 12:28 p.m.

Moreno ordered an autopsy on Ellis's body. His body was sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office. "And those are the charges we have to work with at this point, but it's really early in the investigation for us to make those kind of determinations", Bomers Bach said.

Maryland, too , has conducted background checks on behalf Uber and Lyft and found that not all drivers pass its standards. These allegations are important to us and we take them very seriously", Uber said in a statement.

University spokesperson Matt Flores said the university is investigating whether the fraternity held any social events preceding Ellis' death. Ellis was a pledge for Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

Phi Kappa Theta had its charter revoked by its national organization on November 6. "Alcohol plays a role in college life and I would just ask for moderation in that respect", said Commander Kelly Bomers Bach with the San Marcos Police Department.
