Greggs apologises for replacing baby Jesus with sausage roll in nativity scene

Greggs apologises for replacing baby Jesus with sausage roll in nativity scene

The son of God is nowhere to be seen in the manger, instead there is a sausage roll surrounded by three wise men who we hope are called sausage, beans and cheese melt.

A Greggs spokeswoman told The Northern Echo: 'We're really sorry to have caused any offence, this was never our intention'. "They should donate every penny of their profits to @salvationarmyuk". "No other religion would stand for that nonsense".

The £24 calendar is pricey for Greggs, which is known for its cheap treats, but the chain says that the contents are worth between £35 and £60.

The calendars will go on sale in selected Greggs shops across the United Kingdom from Monday.

Emblazoned on the front is a Festive Bake in a Father Christmas-themed bag, which bears the greeting: "Merry Greggsmas".

Rev Mark Edwards, vicar at St Matthew's Church and St Cuthbert's Church in Newcastle, told the Evening Chronicle he was appalled by the photo.

Keenum passed for 304 yards and four touchdowns in the 38-30 victory, but he also threw two fourth-quarter interceptions. Offensively, the Rams are averaging 32.9 points and 388.9 total yards (260.1 in passing and 128.8 in rushing) per game.

"Crumb all ye faithful", one person said.

The photo, which appears behind one of the calendar's doors, shows figures from the nativity paying homage to a sausage roll in a manger.

The image was produced to promote the chain's Advent calendar, which contains a voucher for a different baked treat every day in the run-up to Christmas. "Every year some company creates a Christmas controversy for commercial gain; it seems to get earlier each year".

The advert also attracted criticism online.

"I would have thought Greggs was better than that, and I think if they tried that with any other faith you can imagine the outcry there would be, and rightly so". "Fans won't be disappointed by what's behind the doors".
