Jon Stewart On Louis CK: 'Could I Have Done More?'

Jon Stewart On Louis CK: 'Could I Have Done More?'

Asked whether he thought Louis C.K. could ever revive his career - the questioner argued C.K.'s actions were "different" from Harvey Weinstein's, for example - Stewart replied that it's really not the concern right now. Matt Lauer dutifully asked Stewart for a comment on last week's allegations of sexual misconduct that Louis C.K. sexually harassed women by masturbating in front of them behind closed doors, allegations that C.K. "Some of them have died", he said Tuesday on the Today show. You always find yourself back to a moment of, did I miss something? "Could I have done more?'" he said. "You feel anger at what he did to people".

It's good that in this clip, we see Stewart shouldering some of the blame himself. The women who came forward said Louis C.K. either masturbated in front of them, asked if he could masturbate in front of them, or was heard masturbating while on the phone with them.

On Today, Stewart explained his reaction.

He also said that he realizes that saying C.K. had always been a gentleman to him may not have been the best response, saying that, "again I think speaks to the blindness that a man has, which is like, hey he's a good guy, what are you talking about".

"We took somebody's word for it, and maybe that's an error on our part", he says. I think it's a question of, we're used to being in charge, and I think if you talk to women, they're in a very hard position. Honestly, I'm not that connected to that world.

United Nations dismisses the Saudi demand to re-open the Yemen Port
The strike comes just a day after Saudi ambassador to the UN Abdallah Al-Mouallimi agreed to reopen some ports to allow aid in. The US-backed coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been at war in with the Shiite rebels known as Houthis since March 2015.

"It's another one of those endemic, systemic and complex problems that we all haven't had the urgency for, certainly myself included", he added. He said, "What do you think of the allegations against Louis C.K., and my first response was, 'What?' and then joke, joke. The power I had over these women is that they admired me", he added.

Stewart confirmed that he and C.K. haven't spoken since the New York Times story broke.

Ackerman, who graduated in summer 2016 and works as a test prep tutor and a budding playwright, praised Axelrod for giving students access to powerful celebrities and told Chicago Inc., "I would hope that in the future. he is more welcoming of "non sequiturs" and that kind of question, even if it is not something he wants to talk about, because nobody else was asking".
