PM Modi, Australia PM Turnbull hold bilateral meeting — ASEAN Summit

In an address at the annual gathering of leaders of the grouping in Manila, the Prime Minister said India was looking forward to a greater role by the East Asia Summit in the region. "I reiterate my commitment to work with you to address the political, security and economic issues of the region", Modi said.

PM Modi first held bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and discussed close cooperation to optimize the significant potential for further collaboration across a broad range of areas.

"India assures the ASEAN of its steady support towards achieving a rules-based regional security architecture that best attests to the region's interests and its peaceful development", he said.

"We are committed to curtailing the threat of terrorism and violent extremism through information sharing and law enforcement cooperation, including through our Southeast Asia Aviation and Border Security program, as well as strengthening data exchange with Interpol", it added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak proposed the establishment of the East Asia Vision Group III to monitor the impact of the revolution on the economies of the said nations, and outline measures to deal with the situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the Congress and questioned the party's record on governance and also the scams that erupted before the 2014 elections.

"At the 15th India-ASEAN Summit, the prime minister and ASEAN Leaders will review the commemorative activities undertaken in 2017 to mark the 25 years of India's dialogue partnership with ASEAN, as well as review the broad spectrum of India-ASEAN cooperation in all its aspects", the ministry said.

Investment from ASEAN to India has been over $70 billion in the last 17 years accounting for more than 17% of India's total FDI.

The RCEP, comprising 10-member ASEAN bloc and six other countries - India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, is engaged in negotiations for a free trade pact.
