Trump mixes up California shooting with Texas shooting in tweet

Trump has offered condolences to the wrong shooting on Wednesday in a Tweet which read "May God be with the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI and Law Enforcement has arrived", Mr Trump tweeted shortly after 8.30pm on Tuesday evening.

The time that the shooting at Sutherland Springs, Texas took place, president Trump was with his wife Melania Trump at the five-nation, 12-day tour of Asia. "I am monitoring the situation from Japan".

Others speculated he had accidentally posted a draft version of a tweet sent in the wake of the Texas atrocity.

Suspected gunman Kevin Neal was shot dead by police after he opened fire on his neighbors and an elementary school at Rancho Tehama Reserve during a 45-minute rampage.

Piers Morgan, a supporter of Mr Trump, said: "At least get your mass shootings right, Mr President. Can you make an effort to keep up with the carnage #ThoughtsAndPrayers, please?"
